Knud Øland (1921-1991) Prolific Turner and Artisan
Knud was a very prolific turner, it was very hard to keep up with him. Before I had the piece sanded and finished he was already doing other pieces. The 60 turnings we have kept are on display in the Decagon.
He had started the decagon in 1989 with the intent of finishing the building himself. The wood in the complex came off the homestead, the framing, the oak flooring and the oak paneling, it had been cut down earlier and stacked to air dry. When Knud passed away in September 1991 the rafters were up and the outside walls were somewhat complete. We found four local carpenters to help finish the building and in the fall of 1993 everything was done. The majority of the turnings in the decagon were done during 1990 and 1991.
